What is the difference between you and a chartered accountant?
Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) are currently required to achieve a University degree while completing certain mandatory courses along with practical work experience.
https://www.cpaontario.ca/become-a-cpa/why-cpa/program-info/public-accountant-licence
There used to be 3 designations : Certified General Accountant (CGA) Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) and Chartered Accountant (CA. In 2014 these 3 designations signed an agreement to merge to become CPA and those possessing any of these 3 designations were grandfathered in. Since many CPAs came from the various designations, not all CPAs possess the same educational background and experience. For example, when I attained my college diploma, in 2004, University level education was not required to obtain a CGA.
I possess a 3-year Business Administration Co-op diploma, a 4-year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration Degree- Accounting Major and a Paralegal Diploma. My University education was geared toward the prerequisites for the CMA designation. That being said, these courses also comply with the educational requirements of the current CPA designation. To my knowledge the only service that I am not authorized to provide, without the CPA, is audited financial statements. This means my education and experience is equal to or exceeds most CPAs. Since I do not have a costly CPA designation, I can provide my services at a much lower rate. Additionally, my Paralegal Diploma helps me to understand all the Legal requirements behind the accounting which aids me in better serving you.
Don’t I have to use a chartered accountant if I am a business or corporation?t
No. Any Accountant can do such things as bookkeeping, government reporting, T2 Corporate Tax Returns, Notice to Readers (NTR), unaudited financial statements, etc. for Businesses and Corporations. That being said, if your corporation has a requirement to provide audited financial statements, then you will need to seek the services of a Chartered Professional Accountant(CPA) for that service.
Can you assist me if I am audited by the government?t
Absolutely. In the event that you find yourself in the position of being audited, JuSt Business and Tax Solutions will stick by you throughout this process and take a lot of the stress off you.
Here’s what some of my clients are saying
Get to know Juliana Stennett
I started on this journey back in 2001 as a single mother of 4 thinking that I needed to do something to give them a better life. Having done taxes for other people since 1991 and always playing around with numbers and budgeting, at the age of 26, with all my children under the age of 9, I decided that a career in accounting would be a good way to balance family and work.
Although I did not possess a high school diploma, that wasn’t going to stop me. I wrote the mature student test, moved the 4 hours south to North Bay, all in under a month and started working toward a diploma in accounting. After completing a full 3 years of a Business Admin Accounting Co-op Diploma from Canadore College, I realized that this would not get me very far and decided to complete another 4 years to achieve a Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting Major Honours Degree from Nipissing University.
Obviously no stranger to hard work, I juggled family, school and 2 part time jobs and to this day the momentum has not slowed . . .

In 2010 I moved to Southern Ontario to look for new adventures and opportunities and having always dreamt of working in law, I decided to complete my paralegal diploma – because after all, there are a lot of laws surrounding accounting too, and it never hurts to have more knowledge.
I play just as hard as I work, spending time with my family and enjoying activities such as the Aylmer Community Choir, Aylmer Theatre, Ballroom Dancing and kickboxing, and I get outside as much as I can both summer and winter. I never shy away from the chance to volunteer whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Hard work and honesty are the cornerstones of success – Together we can succeed one “stone” at a time!
What inspired you to start up your business?
I realized one day that so many people were so great at “baking a cake” that they wanted to start their own business, but they struggled to understand the administrative side of things. They depended on their accountant to look after the financial side of things and often I heard, “but I thought my accountant was taking care of that”. I had so many people come to me with the same story – they were going under and going under fast and when I asked them where they were at financially, they honestly did not know. I realized then that I wanted to help them to learn how to use the financial information provided to them so that they could get back in the drivers’ seat. I wanted to ensure that they would never again wonder where they were at financially and therefore not be caught off guard in a situation that they could no longer dig themselves out of.
I want to work side by side with business owners and individuals to give you back the control that should have been yours all along. I listen to my clients, learn your unique styles and then customize something that works for you, because if it does not work for you, you will not use it. I want to hear you telling others that “it really is that easy”.
Who has influenced you the most professionally?
I have had some wonderful family and friends pushing me. I am not one to give up and those around me know that sometimes all I need is a little encouragement. I grew up in a family that was all about helping others to reach their potential. Life was never easy for my family and whenever I felt like I couldn’t go on I would hear my Grandmother, who lived to be 101, say “Awh, get on with it already”. I love that I have some great people in my network to bounce things off of and to help me to make needed adjustments. Someone once told me that I have the most potential of anyone they knew and that they had no doubt that I would be successful. For me success is not measured by the size of my wallet – But by the satisfaction of my clients.
How would you describe yourself as a business person?
I work with honesty and integrity. I treat my clients the way I would want them to treat me. I get my clients the best possible returns that I can, without bending or stretching the law and I have been told that I do this well. Since all my clients are important, I will not put any of my clients at risk by compromising my integrity. I never stop learning and growing, and I want to help my clients to do the same. I do not need a million dollars but I would love to help a million people be successful while reducing their stress.
In hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
The courses that I took in both college and university more than adequately prepared me to provide my clients with high quality service. However, I was under the mistaken notion that I needed an accounting designation such as CGA, CMA, CA, CPA in order to be successful.
Consequently, I spent a considerable amount of time pursuing career opportunities to accomplish that goal before finally discovering that this was not at all necessary for the service that I offer. The benefit of me not obtaining my designation is that I am able to provide the same high level of service at a much more reasonable rate.
Who do you find inspirational and why?
Family and friends who are going through difficult life struggles who still exhibit a positive attitude, are full of joy and are out there encouraging others. People who pray for me, encourage me and inspire me to go on despite the obstacles. And clients who have overcome so much in their lives and still continue moving forward.
How has your past accounting experience shaped you?
After College and University, I took on many different positions. Some of these were questioned by friends and family but I always looked at every opportunity as a form of paid education. I took things away from each position, no matter how good or bad that role was, and was never afraid to ask for help and advice along the way. Every one of my bosses was a mentor to me and I learned something new from each one of them. All of these things molded me into the accountant that I am today. All of these experiences brought me full circle back to working one on one with the client and I love it.
I have always looked at numbers in what appeared to others as a backwards way and there has never been a bunny trail too crazy that I could not follow it to the end. I love a challenge and I have faced more than my fair share of challenges. My clients can attest to the fact that I will not back down from any challenge presented to me and I will not stop until I have found an answer for them or at least a direction for them to take to get that answer. As another accountant from up north so aptly put it on her web page “I work with my clients for free. It’s all the crazy paperwork that I have to charge for.”
What is the best thing about being in business?
That I can be the best I can be without anyone holding me back. What I love most is that I can now give each client the individual attention and the superior results they deserve without someone telling me that “it’s not worth the extra time and money”. My clients are definitely worth the time and effort that I give them.
